Book: The General: William Booth
“The General: William Booth” is the first full-length biography about William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army, since 1934. The first volume, “The Evangelist”, covers his life from childhood to his settling in London with his wife Catherine in 1865, which is usually seen as the year The Salvation Army began. It examines the early life of William Booth more thoroughly than any book before it, paying particular attention to his relationship with Catherine and his time as a Methodist preacher.
“The Soldier” traces the life of Booth from the early days of The Salvation Army in 1866 to his death in 1912, and introduces readers to his remarkable family and a whole host of unusual characters.
