William and Catherine Booth

Book: The Letters of William and Catherine Booth

William and Catherine Booth were the founders of The Salvation Army, a world-wide Christian organisation, whose social program has benefited millions. The letters in this book (edited by David Malcolm Bennett of Brisbane) are all the traceable letters that they wrote to each other. This volume is the first time they have all been brought together and they appear with footnotes and an index.

This book is a fascinating look at the Booths and nineteenth century England. It has been described as “a truly monumental work” by the Christian Mission Historical Association Journal (Winter 2003). The book containing these letters is now out of print and has been replaced by The Booth Letters CD, which contains these letters and Catherine Booth’s Diary and Reminiscences.
